Books to shape you

I am at home watching the Anne of Green Gables telemovie, in a fit of nostalgia, and it strikes me that this character is at the heart of me. From her hyperbole and drama-queen tendencies to a yearning for kindred spirits, Anne’s the childhood friend every girl who ever read the classic Lucy Maud Montgomery books longed for.

Halfway through reading the talented Kate Morton’s wonderful new novel, The Distant Hours, I am similarly transported back to the escapism and rampant book-lust of childhood… grab a copy now if you haven’t already; it’s a jolly good read – perhaps her best yet.

oh I adored the Anne of Green Gables books when a girl and can’t wait to share the books and the movies with my daughter Evie. There is something simple and lovely and fun about them and we all need a little of that in our lives. Then there is the other character – the scenery of Prince Edward Island. That fired my imagination so much too

Anne of Green Gables has been my favourite book since I was a little kid. Probably because I’m Canadian :) I’ll have to get my hands on the new Kate Morton book.
